Active Surfaces, a Woburn, MA-based flexible solar panel startup spun out from MIT, raised $5.6M in pre-seed funding.
The round was led by Safar Partners, with participation from QVT, Lendlease, Type One Ventures, Umami Capital, Sabanci Climate Ventures, New Climate Ventures, SeaX Ventures, and others.
The company intends to use the funds to expand its R&D efforts, scale up production, and bring its solar solutions to market.
Founded by Shiv Bhakta and Richard Swartwout, Active Surfaces specializes in developing flexible, high-efficiency solar technology designed for integration into a variety of surfaces. It aims to empower the energy sector by making solar power ubiquitous and integrated into everyday materials. The company’s lightweight, flexible solar panel technology can be integrated into virtually any surface of any size.
