Expedera, a Santa Clara, CA-based licensor of edge inference artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor intellectual property (IP), raised $20M in Series B funding.

The round, which brought the total amount to more than $47M, was led by indie Semiconductor, with participation from other investors.

The company intends to use the funds to advance its Neural Processing Unit (NPU) IP products and services and expand its global engineering footprint.

Led by CEO Da Chuang, Expedera provides customizable neural engine semiconductor IP that improves performance, power, and latency while reducing cost and complexity in edge AI inference applications. Deployed in over 10 million consumer devices, its Neural Processing Unit (NPU) solutions are scalable and produce results in applications ranging from edge nodes and smartphones to automotive. The platform includes a TVM-based software stack that allows the importing of trained networks, provides various quantization options, automatic completion, compilation, estimator, and profiling tools, and supports multi-job APIs.

The company has engineering development centers and customer support offices in the UK, China, Japan, Taiwan, and Singapore.
