EvolutionaryScale, a NYC-based artificial intelligence powered biology startup, raised $142m in seed funding.
The round was led by Nat Friedman, Daniel Gross and Lux Capital, with participation from Amazon Web Services (AWS) and NVentures, the venture capital arm of NVIDIA, as well as angel investors.
The company intends to use the funds to expand operations and its development efforts.
Led by Alexander Rives, EvolutionaryScale is advancing ESM3, a life sciences large language model for creating novel proteins and other biological systems. ESM3 is a family of models in three sizes: small, medium, and large, available through the company’s API and its partner’s platforms. ESM3-open is a safe model with source code available on GitHub under a non-commercial license. All models are built and deployed adhering to the company’s responsible development framework.
