Dusk, a San Francisco, CA-based provider of a platform for building and playing social multiplayer games, raised $8M in funding.

The round was led by byFounders and Makers Fund, with participation from gaming founders including Ben Liu (PocketGems), Thomas Hartwig (King) and Adi Rathnam (Kamkord).

The company intends to use the funds to expand operations and its development efforts.

Co-founded by Bjarke Felbo and Sanjay Guruprasad, Dusk offers an SDK, a toolkit that allows developers to build complex multiplayer games in a few hours. Developers build their game as though players are on a single device and the Dusk SDK handles all the complexities of networking, latency and conflict resolution, allowing the game to scale to millions of friend groups playing across continents. Games are built without a backend and automatically run cross-platform on both web browsers and within the company’s Android and iOS apps.

Dusk’s beta grew rapidly with over 50 games built for the platform ranging from multiplayer mini-golf to real-time 3D racing games. The games are built by indie game developers using the Dusk SDK,

It is now out of beta and is fully available for free on the Play Store and App Store.

Dusk is a YCombinator-backed company.
