Contextual AI, a San Francisco, CA-based startup that builds customized language models for businesses to enhance their AI applications, raised $80m Series A funding round.

The round was led by Greycroft with participation from Bezos Expeditions, NVentures, HSBC Ventures, and Snowflake Ventures as well as existing investors Bain Capital Ventures, Lightspeed Ventures, Lip-Bu Tan, Conviction, and Recall Capital.

The company intends to use the funds to expand its development efforts.

Led by CEO Douwe Kiela, and CTO Amanpreet Singh, Contextual AI provides a platform that lets enterprises build RAG 2.0 applications in minutes while being fully customizable using end-to-end machine learning (ML). Enterprises can deploy the platform on its secure SaaS infrastructure or on-prem within their own environment. With on-prem deployment, there’s no need to send data to external APIs.
