Mimic, a Palo Alto, CA-based enterprise ransomware defense company, raised a Series A funding of $50m.

The round was led by GV (Google Ventures) and Menlo Ventures, with participation from existing investors Ballistic Ventures, Team8, Wing Ventures, and Shield Capital.

Founded in 2023, and led by Derek Smith, CEO, and Bob Blakley, Chief Product Officer, Mimic provides an enterprise ransomware defense platform for security teams to detect ransomware early, deflect attacks before damage occurs, and recover in seconds without allowing threat actors to reestablish access.

Mimic announced that Kevin Mandia, the founder of Mandiant, has joined its Board of Directors. Mandia led Mandiant as CEO until 2024. Acquired by Google in 2022, Mandiant’s customers include over 200 Fortune 500 companies and major government organizations worldwide. Mandia is a Co-founder and General Partner at Ballistic Ventures and previously served on the CISA Cybersecurity Advisory Committee.

In addition, the company appointed Greg Davison as Head of Revenue. Davison brings a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the cybersecurity landscape. With over 30 years in technology and nearly a decade with Mandiant/Google, he will play a key role in expanding Mimic’s reach and helping organizations defend against the growing threat of ransomware.

Finally, Mimic also announced a new capability that allows customers to safely simulate the impact of ransomware.
