Spore.Bio, a Paris, France-based startup developing technologies to detect and quantify bacteria using AI, raised $23M in Series A funding.

The round was led by Singular participation from Point 72 Ventures, 1st Kind Ventures (Peugeot Family Office), Station F and Lord David Prior (ex Chair NHS) and existing investors including LocalGlobe, No Label Ventures, Famille C (Clarins Family Office).

The company intends to use the funds to double its workforce from 25 to 50 scientists and engineers, scale up the industrialization process, continue to iterate with existing customers and prepare for commercialization before the end of the year.

Spore.Bio is a deeptech startup that developed proprietary testing technology combining machine learning and microbiology.

The company developed and validated its first prototypes in its lab and is now dedicated to supporting its first customers, with more than 200 factories currently in scope, gaining traction beyond Food&Beverage, and now expanding into Pharma and Cosmetics. On top of commercial partners, Spore.Bio secured an academic partnership with Pasteur Institute, the world leading Microbiology institute.

This partnership will allow to open up the capabilities of Spore.Bio’s technology, boosted with Pasteur Institute biobank and renowned know-how. Spore.Bio also acquired competitor Greentropism to capitalize on their technical expertise and IP. Greentropism had previously raised €3M.

Founded in 2023, Spore.Bio is led by:

  • Amine Raji, CEO, a food and beverage manufacturing engineer who has spent 6 years in Nestlé factories, witnessing the problem firsthand;
  • Maxime Mistretta, CTO, a PhD graduate and postdoc in microbiology from the Pasteur Institute;
  • Mohamed Tazi, COO, a second-time founder who previously successfully sold his company Gymlib to EGYM.

The new funding follows a $8.3M in pre-seed round led by LocalGlobe in December 2023, bringing the total funding to date to $31.3M.
