Backers included Breakthrough Energy Ventures, Future Ventures, Bayer and Syngenta.
The company intends to use the funds to expand partnerships across the platform and fast track product development.
Led by CEO and Founder Travis Bayer, Decibel provides an epigenetic reprogramming platform that allows farmers to apply a treatment that boosts the genes that protect the plant’s photosynthetic machinery from extreme heat, keeping it productive instead of shutting down under stress. This same approach works for drought, excess rainfall, and even yield enhancement.
The company aims to advance its proprietary platform for both reading and writing the plant epigenome to create crop varieties with higher yield, efficiency, and resilience to a changing environment.
