Cartour Srl, a Messina, IT-based ferry services company, has received a €20m equity investment.
Investors include Fondo Italiano di Investimento, which committed €17.5m, and the company’s current shareholders, who provided the remaining portion of €2.5m.
Founded in October 2001 by Caronte & Tourist SpA and led by CEO Vincenzo Franza, Cartour connects Messina and Salerno in around seven and half hours. The Messina – Salerno line currently offers 3 departures daily on the company’s ships, which include the “Cartour Beta” and the “Cartour Gamma”.
The investment will support the company’s current efforts to launch a new line connecting Italy to Western Sicily and acquire new ships to boost the activities.
Cartour had a turnover of €45m in 2010.
