Electric-Scooter Startup Bird Raises $300M in Series C Funding

Bird, a Santa Monica, CA-based electric-scooter startup, raised $300m in series C funding.

The round, which brought total funding to $418m and reportedly valued Bird at $2 billion, was led by Sequoia with participation from new investors Accel, B Capital, CRV, Sound Ventures, Greycroft and e.ventures and previous investors Craft Ventures, Index Ventures, Valor, Goldcrest, Tusk Ventures and Upfront Ventures. In conjunction with the funding, Sequoia’s Roelof Botha joined the company’s board of directors.

Founded in April 2017 and launched in September 2017 in Santa Monica, Bird is an electric scooter service, offering dockless scooters that users can locate and unlock through a mobile app.

The company, which works with cities to allow them to improve transportation and make it more environmentally friendly, is using the funds to expand operations and its business reach.
