Our healthcare system has come a long way in the last 30-40 years. We used to walk into the doctor’s office that was dressed in backlighting, an old filing system, and dingy equipment. Our technology has advanced us past that point now. A lot of changes have made our healthcare system better. Technology has played a big part in that advancement.
Five Ways Technology Has Changed the Way We Look At Healthcare
1) HRT and HGH Therapy
HRT(Hormone Replacement Therapy) is a process where the doctors revitalize the natural production of hormones in your body. Production slows down as we age. HRT, also known as HGH therapy, is what doctors use to get the process started. 40 years ago, we did not have anything like that. The doctor gives you an injection in the skin. The injection is supposed to replenish the old cells and bring them to live again.
2) Portal Technology
This is where a patient can access their records online. Patients are becoming more active in their own healthcare needs. The doctors allow them access when they create an account online at their doctor’s site. That way patients know what is going on and why. Sometimes the doctors leave information out. They do not do intentionally, but sometimes it happens. The patient can see what is happening. It also encourages the patient to have more open and honest discussions about their health with the doctor.
3) Kiosks
You see these in retail stores. Your doctor’s office might do it soon too. It helps to move things along. Some patients are not comfortable disclosing things at registration. The kiosk makes it easier for them to fill out the form. That way the staff can do other things while you do yours. Some argue that this tech tool gives the staff an excuse to ignore you. However, some healthcare officials have come out with a word of warning.
Word of Warning:
Hospital officials are asking for healthcare facilities to exercise caution with this tool. This is not an excuse to ignore communication entirely. You still need to show the same respect to every patient, whether you help them fill out the form or not.
4) Monitoring Tools
This tool lets other people monitor your situation more closely. Some call it more intrusive, but it does provide a benefit. There are some patients who need the extra care, particularly those who face chronic illnesses. Devices like this allow those who need to know what is going on so they can respond that much faster.
5) Going Wireless
You get text messages on your personal phone, right? This is the same thing except it is allowed in a professional setting. These tools make sure that the HIPPA codes are met. You can send messages back and forth to other staff members. You can get test results in real-time. That eliminates the dead time you face waiting for something in the past.
