Zend Technologies, a Cupertino, California-based provider of open-source and commercial solutions for developing and managing PHP Web applications, has received a $7m equity financing from Viola Private Equity.
The investment is part of a round that was announced in May 2010 and amounts to $16.5m. Viola joins the company’s existing investors Greylock Partners, Index Ventures, Azure Capital Partners, Intel Capital, SAP Ventures among the others.
Zend intends to use the new capital to launch new cloud offerings and partner initiatives, and expand its global sales force.
In conjunction with the funding, Harel Beit-On, Founder and General Partner at Viola Private Equity, will join the company’s board of directors.
Led by CEO and co-founder Andi Gutmans, Zend provides software and services for developing, deploying and managing business-critical PHP applications on-premise and in the cloud. PHP today runs 35% of the world’s Web sites and has become the most popular language for building dynamic Web applications.
The company operates offices in France, Germany, Ireland, Israel and Italy.
