Air Protein Raises $32M in Series A Funding

-

Air Protein, a Berkeley, California-based maker of meat made from elements of the air, raised $32M in Series A funding.

The round was led by ADM Ventures, Barclays, and GV (formerly Google Ventures). Unreasonable Collective, an invitation only co-investment club focused on diversifying the investment space that supports ventures leveraging business to solve the world’s most endemic problems, also participated.

The company intends to use the funds to accelerate their work towards providing nutritious alternatives and commercialize a novel technology platform that is capable of scaling to large-scale production.

Led by Lisa Dyson, PhD (CEO), and Dr. John Reed (CSO), Air Protein plans to build a modern meat company introducing nutritious, ultra-sustainable, alternative proteins that can feed the world’s growing population sustainably. Using a proprietary probiotic production process, the protein found in air-based meat is a new form of sustainable protein created from elements found in the air and it has an amino acid profile comparable to meat protein. This process can make food in a matter of hours, and independently from weather conditions and seasons. According to the company, this new protein source will be able to make meatless burgers, protein-enriched pastas, cereals, beverages and more.
