Poppy Handcrafted Popcorn, an Asheville, NC-based natural gourmet popcorn company, raised $3M in Series A funding.

The round was led by JACS Capital and investor Jeff Immelt, who has been appointed to its Advisory Board. In addition, Chris Renno would be joining the Board of Directors.

The company intends to use the funds to more than double its existing manufacturing space and invest more than $2M in new equipment and technology.

Launched in 2014 and led by Co-CEOs Susan Aplin and Ginger Frank, Poppy Handcrafted Popcorn produces gourmet popcorn by leveraging a small batch approach and using natural ingredients (including non-GMO corn) from as close to home as possible. Available at retailers throughout North America, Poppy will increase production capacity by at least six times and add new jobs in the local WNC economy.
