Desti, a Menlo Park, CA-based smart travel guide for the iPad, raised an additional $1m in seed funding.
Backers included existing investors Carmel, SRI International and Horizon Ventures.
The company, which had raised $1.55m in October 2011, intends to use the capital to expand their content and coverage to surrounding states. It plans to grow their presence and content focus in California and Nevada before expanding to cover the entire west coast by the first quarter of 2013.
Led by Nadav Gur, co-founder and CEO, Desti uses natural language processing and Virtual Personal Assistant (VPA) technology (derived from SRI International) to deliver custom travel recommendations for local travel, including hotels, events, attractions, and restaurants.
Launched into public beta in November 2012 focusing on the Northern California area, the app is now available and free to download from the iTunes Store.
