-

GiPStech, a startup that develops a technology to locate an object that is moving in indoors environments, won the Startup Competition of the second edition of TechCrunch Italy.

The company, founded by Matteo Faggin, Gaetano D’Aquila and Giuseppe Fedele, won two tickets for the next Disrupt SF and a €50k (€10k in cash + a €40k visibility package) prize offered by Populis.

Co-organized by Populis and TechCrunch, The two-day event, which took place in Rome, at MAXXI, the musuem of contemporary arts, saw the participation of over 1,000 web experts, startup co-founders and venture capitalists from Silicon Valley, Russia, Israel, UK, Germany, Italy. Among the speakers, social media guru Ramon De Leon, and natural gesture technology pioneer John Underkoffller made remarkable speeches.
In the Startup Alley, I had the opportunity to meet some startup founders. Among them, Daniel Marzini of ElasticDot, a platform as a service for WordPress, Giuseppe Saponaro of Jusp, a mobile payment startup, Alberto Gangarossa and Edoardo Ricca of Pathflow, a real life Analytics solution that analyzes how customers move and behave inside a store and extracts objective data, Alessandro Braga of Sportboom, a provider of sporting activities  at discounted prices, Nikita Dobrynin of AstraFit, which helps people choose the perfect clothing size online.

The event was affected by atavic Internet connection problems (as also remarked by TC Europe editor Mike Butcher here).
