Tales2Go Inc., a Bethesda, Maryland-based provider of audio books for early childhood programs, closed $2.4m in Series A financing.
Backers included NewSchools Venture Fund and the Maryland Venture Fund. In addition to the financing, the company has named Richard Barth, CEO of the KIPP Foundation, to its board of directors.
The company intends to use the funds for expansion in the U.S. and Canada, and later abroad.
Led by Co-Founder and CEO William Weil, Tales2Go provides audio books that support the development of literacy skills during early childhood and elementary school years. The company’s service adds a listening component to classroom reading instruction and is used in some districts in the U.S., including Los Angeles Unified School District (California), Broward County Schools (Florida), Berkeley Unified School District (California) and Heartland Area Education Agency (Iowa).
