Distil Networks, Inc., an Arlington, VA- and San Francisco, CA-based provider of a bot detection and mitigation platform, closed a $21m round of Series B financing.
The round was led by new investor Bessemer Venture Partners (BVP) with participation from current investors Foundry Group, TechStars, ff Venture Capital, Idea Fund and Correlation Ventures. In conjunction with the funding, David Cowan, partner at BVP and co-founder of VeriSign, Good Technology and Defense.net, will join Distil’s board of directors.
The company, which has raised $38 million to date, intends to use the funds to expand sales, marketing, and engineering efforts.
Led by CEO and Co-founder Rami Essaid, Distil offers a platform to defend websites against malicious bots used for web scraping, brute force attacks, competitive data mining, account hijacking, unauthorized vulnerability scans, spam, man-in-the-middle attacks and click fraud – all without impacting users. The solution monitors every single Web request and builds a signature, or fingerprint, of every incoming connection, allowing the company to detect, flag and block that unique fingerprint for all other sites under its protection.
