castAR Closes $15m Series A Funding

castarcastAR (previously known as Technical Illusions), a Mountain View, CA-based augmented reality gaming startup, closed an over $15m Series A funding.

The round was led by Playground Global with participation from seed investors.

The company intends to use the funds to continue product development efforts. To this end, it plans to hire engineering, business, and design talent as it works towards a 2016 commercial launch.

Founded in 2013 by Jeri Ellsworth and Rick Johnson and led by David Henkel-Wallace, CEO, castAR has developed an augmented reality gaming system which combines hardware and software to create to transform a user’s physical environment into a digital playground.
The company had raised over $1 million in crowdfunding through Kickstarter.
