Flixel Photos Inc., a Toronto, Canada-based visual storytelling company that enables content creators to produce cinemagraphs, raised $2.2m in seed funding.
The round was led by Extreme Venture Partners and Cranson Capital Securities, with participation from existing investors as well as angel investors in Australia and Canada.
The company will use the funds to expand its suite of products.
Founded in 2011 by CEO Philippe LeBlanc, Flixel offers a suite of tools to photographers, videographers, and marketers to create “Living Photos” or “cinemagraphs” – a still image with moving elements. The company’s patent-pending technology allows users to create Cinemagraphs on a Mac, iPhone and iPad. Flixel has an in-house production group called Flixel Studios that creates custom cinemagraph campaigns for partners like the Emmy Awards. It has worked with leading brands on cinemagraph and micro-video campaigns including Facebook, Instagram, A&E, Panasonic, and several others.
Investors include supermodel and businesswoman Tyra Banks.
