mSurvey Receives Strategic Investment From Safaricom

msurveymSurvey, a Nairobi, Kenya-based global mobile-first research platform leveraging SMS and mobile messaging technology to simplify access to on-demand data from the emerging world, received a strategic investment of undisclosed amount.

Safaricom’s Spark Venture Fund, a $1m fund with the objective of accelerating Kenya-based mobile technology startups, made the investment along with Silicon Valley’s Cross Culture Ventures and the Virgin Group-backed, Caribbean-focused Alpha Angels network.

The company will use the funds to expand operations and adoption of its service.

Led by Kenfield Griffith, Founder and CEO, mSurvey provides a mobile-first research platform leveraging SMS and mobile messaging technology to simplify access to on-demand data from the emerging world. Leveraging mobile phones, the company’s platform enables users to engage in real time conversations at scale, connecting them directly to people anywhere and on any topic. The research platform serves customers in the worlds of telecommunications, health and academic research and business, including Safaricom, McKinsey, Airtel, Harvard University, Acumen and Digicel, providing access to real time data from select or random populations in in Kenya, the Philippines, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and Haiti, with plans for continued rollout across the globe.
Headquartered in Nairobi, mSurvey also has regional offices in San Francisco, USA and Trinidad and Tobago in the Caribbean.

Other investors in the company include Ashish Patel, Managing Director, the Abraaj Group, Steven Tamm, Chief Technology Officer, Salesforce, and Bob McNeel, CEO, Robert McNeel & Associates.
